The energy transition is one of the greatest challenges of our time. With technical solutions that specifically contribute to this goal, Wöhner is making an important contribution to the success of the sustainable transformation.

On the one hand, the energy transition is about integrating renewable energies into the energy supply and significantly increasing the contribution of electricity from wind, water and sun. On the other hand, improving energy efficiency plays an important role in the distribution of energy.

In this way, energy in Germany is not only becoming more climate-friendly, but also less dependent on geopolitical conflicts. However, this is accompanied by far-reaching changes in the power grid, such as increasingly decentralised energy generation and fluctuating availability. For example, energy from renewable sources is not necessarily available where it is needed at the time. With their solutions for controlling and distributing energy, current developments are increasingly bringing the electrical industry into the focus of politics and business.

As a company in the industry and a specialist in innovative energy distribution, Wöhner is making an important contribution to the success of the energy transition. Wöhner components ensure maximum security of supply and system in wind power and photovoltaic systems as well as battery charging storage systems, among other things, and thus support the switch to renewable energies.

On the way to a CO2-neutral industrial society, direct current is also of important importance. This is because renewable energies such as photovoltaic systems produce direct current due to the system. Until now, the use of energy has required conversion into alternating current. This results in high energy losses. If we succeed in reducing these losses, our industry will take a decisive step towards greater climate friendliness and self-sufficiency.

Since there is enormous potential in the use of direct current from the point of view of the entire electrical industry, Wöhner is researching a series of direct current switches, so-called DC switches, together with partners from industry and science. These ensure that the energy losses that would otherwise occur during the conversion of direct current into alternating current are reduced and thus the energy demand is reduced. Due to the optimised use of electricity, the switches are an important technology for sustainable ecological – but in the long term also economic – development.

However, it is not only in this case that cooperation based on partnership and exchange between all relevant actors from business, politics, science and society make a decisive contribution to the decarbonisation of the economy: At almost all production sites – from Brazil to China to Germany – Wöhner conducts intensive research and development activities with external partners in order to develop smart solutions for reliable, efficient and sustainable energy distribution. In this way, groundbreaking and practical products are constantly being created that set impulses in the market. In this way, the family-owned company is driving forward a development that is indispensable for the entire industry in the long term: "Coopetition", i.e. the fusion of cooperation and competition, is the magic word of the hour, under which industry players join forces and bundle synergies for common goals.

In the industry, digital solutions are also playing an increasingly important role in the product range, as these systems reveal new opportunities for sustainability. Intelligent components in plants and machines are important building blocks for identifying potential savings, controlling electricity according to demand and improving reliability in the energy supply. With innovative and digital solutions such as these, the entire electrical industry is currently making an important contribution not only to the energy transition, but also to the future viability of the German economy.

Based on this principle, Wöhner creates an energy management system that makes resource consumption transparent through measurement and monitoring, for example with the fully electronic CrossMT measurement technology module. In combination with various applications, the CrossMT module adds intelligent functions and connectivity wherever components in the control cabinet do not have them by default. It measures current, voltage and temperature and calculates quantities to be derived from this, such as power, energy, phase angle and frequency. The MIEZ measurement and monitoring modules from Wöhner also offer a holistic solution from measurement at central points to monitoring of the entire control cabinet with the mapping of the entire measurement chain. Components such as these help to keep track of energy flows and identify potential for optimisation. With Wöhner's measurement technology, users benefit from intelligent to AI-based smart solutions for reliable, efficient and sustainable energy use.

It does not matter whether the components from Wöhner are retrofitted in an existing system or are part of it from the outset. Through targeted support for new development and re-design, the "Design-In" service, Wöhner supports its customers in making systems more energy-efficient. As part of intensive project support, Wöhner creates a concrete proposal on the basis of all available information and with the help of the company's own configurator or planning tool "E-Plan P8", which is primarily aimed at maximum cost-effectiveness, efficiency and durability. Customers can draw on Wöhner's comprehensive technical know-how and do not have to compare component details.

All in all, the energy transition is both an opportunity and a challenge for the economy. In the field of energy distribution, Wöhner will be showcasing a variety of solutions that promote the feed-in of renewable energies into the power grid and increase energy efficiency at the same time.
