Rödental/Berlin, 6th June 2024 – Wöhner, a leading provider of energy distribution, control technology and renewable energies, was represented at “Woche der Umwelt” (Week of the Environment) in the park of Schloss Bellevue from 4th to 5th June. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) had invited to Berlin for a greener future. In addition to a large innovation showcase on future-oriented environmental protection topics and projects, interested visitors experienced a varied specialist programme with exciting discussions on sustainable transformation.

In his speech at the opening of “Woche der Umwelt”, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the innovation show demonstrated that “everything was there to turn our country into a climate-neutral industrialised and exporting nation in which we combine climate protection with prosperity, quality of life and social justice”.

“With this range of knowledge and expertise in environmental protection and nature conservation, we want to provide impetus and ideas,” said DBU Secretary General Alexander Bonde.

Future topics on a large stage and concentrated expertise in around 70 expert forums

The “Woche der Umwelt” provided in-depth insights and fresh impetus on a wide range of environmental protection topics on the main stage and in expert forums. Outstanding personalities from politics, society, business and science debated on the main stage and in the expert forums. The discussions in the approximately 70 expert forums invited participants to engage intensively with the key challenges of our time, such as climate neutrality, energy security, resource conservation, digitisation and infrastructure.

Wöhner's impetus for smart and efficient energy distribution

Wöhner was selected as part of a DBU tender to provide impetus on the topic of intelligent energy distribution for greater sustainability at the expert forum “The digital power grid for the energy supply of the future”. Together with Dr Nina Scheer, Member of the German Bundestag and spokeswoman for climate protection and energy policy for the SPD parliamentary group, and Philipp Godron, Head of the Electricity Programme at Agora Energiewende, Wöhner CEO Philipp Steinberger discussed how the energy transition can be driven forward with digital solutions and which challenges need to be overcome.

“A digital transformation of the electricity supply is essential in order to decisively advance the energy efficiency transition in Germany and Europe and secure our energy supply in the long term. We are convinced that an intelligent grid infrastructure contributes to lowering energy prices and acting ecologically by using resources in a targeted manner,” says Philipp Steinberger, CEO at Wöhner. “It is a particular incentive for us to create a reliable energy supply with our solutions, to proactively shape the economic transformation and thus secure a climate-friendly economy.”

Innovation show on forward-looking environmental protection topics and projects

Around 190 exhibitors from business and technology, research and science as well as civil society also presented their solutions for responsibly shaping change in a two-day innovation showcase.

A top-class jury from society, business and science had screened around 400 applications for this event on the basis of a nationwide call for entries.

Seventh edition of “Woche der Umwelt”

The “Woche der Umwelt” was launched in 2002 by the Federal President at the time, Johannes Rau, and has since been organised together with the Osnabrück-based German Federal Environmental Foundation. This year, the seventh edition of the event took place in the park of Schloss Bellevue and is intended to inspire all participants for a sustainable future.
