Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder and the Minister of Economics Hubert Aiwanger visit Wöhner and Future Systems

Rödental, 11 November 2021 - In the run-up to the opening of the Digital Manufactory, a digital start-up centre in Rödental, Bavaria’s Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger also visited Wöhner on 5 November 2021. During the visit, Aiwanger gained extensive insight into the family-owned company, which has stood for forward-looking technologies for the distribution and control of electrical energy for more than nine decades. In addition to a tour through the company, including a visit to the production facilities, Philipp Steinberger, CEO at Wöhner, spoke with the minister about future topics such as digitalisation and sustainability. As a specialist in energy issues, Wöhner sees it as its corporate responsibility to contribute to the energy transition on its own initiative and has set itself the goal of being completely climate-positive by 2029 at the latest, the year of its 100th anniversary.

Wöhner's major investments at the site were also discussed. Among other things, the Deputy Prime Minister had the planned new high-bay warehouse explained to him and examined a design for a new building complex opposite the existing factory premises. With a planned investment of several million euros at the Rödental site, Wöhner is setting another milestone in the company's history and reaffirming its commitment to the Rödental site.

Aiwanger was also impressed by the new MOTUS C14 electronic motor starter, which CEO Steinberger of Wöhner demonstrated and explained its potential as a game changer. The Minister of Economics was equally enthusiastic about the highly automated production.

Söder and Aiwanger visited Future Systems

As part of the official opening of the Digital Manufactory in Rödental, Minister President Markus Söder and the Bavarian Minister of Economics visited Future Systems, a sister company of Wöhner. As part of the lively start-up scene in the Coburg region, Future System has found an environment in the manufactory where the Wöhner start-up develops smart ideas for future-proof electronic systems.

In his opening speech, Aiwanger emphasised the importance of the Digital Manufactory for the start-up scene in the region of Coburg. Here, he said, there is an optimal environment for converting the opportunities of the digital transformation into sustainable business models. Especially young teams looking for an exchange in a corresponding ecosystem would find optimal conditions there to develop and turn their ideas into reality.

"I am impressed by the concentrated innovative power that has been demonstrated at both Wöhner and the Digital Manufactory. Pressing challenges of the time, such as climate change or technological demands require completely new solutions. And this is precisely the strength of our medium-sized champions like Wöhner, who are successful on a global scale providing innovative products. This quality particularly distinguishes Bavaria as a high-tech state in international competition," Aiwanger emphasised.

Philipp Steinberger, CEO at Wöhner, added: "For Wöhner, the special interest shown by Minister President Markus Söder and Minister of Economics Hubert Aiwanger is not only confirmation of the enormous importance of innovative companies for the region, the state and far beyond, but also an obligation to consistently develop the special culture at Wöhner and to keep finding new answers to the questions of the time."
